(More customer reviews)I was really hoping to find a viable trail solution for the kids to tag along. This tag along bike has an off-road tire, but no other off road attributes. The gearing is very high, even in the easiest gear it is much too high for trail use. Plus the crank arms are extremely short (my guess is their the same ones used on the smaller versions) so the leverage is reduced even more.
The other inhibitor of using this off road is the hitch mount connection. The plastic multi-fit system is handy for fitting lots of bikes, but it doesn't clamp very well and even after extreme tightening, it still twists and moves on the post. It also seems quite brittle and weak the way the connection mates with the steel frame. There is a notch in the tubing that looks like the small metal tabs that bolt to the hitch are not very beefy. I would be nervous off road with them.
I do still offer three stars on this because it works well enough on the road, it is somewhat hard to balance as it is very heavy, which is the last reason why it doesn't seem to be off road friendly.
I'll probably put a road slick on it and just use it for casual road rides.
