I loaded mine up and then hit a two hour storm. Corners were soaked from the kick up from the wheels. Had to air dry everything once arriving to my destination.

(More customer reviews)I needed a 5 bicycle rack that could handle all our family bikes, including our 3 children's (5, 7 and 10 yrs. old) for our yearly vacation. This one seemed to be pretty versatile, not requiring additional bars for most bikes.
While it took some work to make all bikes fit just right (especially the little ones), we made the 4 hour trip to the mountains just fine; no excessive movement (though it does sway a little), no damage to the bicycles (I used pipe insulating foam tube pieces in a couple of spots where bikes rubbed each other) and an overall uneventful trip, even on some not-so-smooth roads. Getting the kids' bikes on was kinda tricky (the littlest one had to travel upside down!) but it worked out fine--I don't think it would have been so with some of the other 2-bar models.
However, if I had to load all 5 bikes on a regular basis I'd probably be looking for a different option. Also, something this rack (and most others too) could use is some kind of reflective finish on the end of the tube... can never be too safe!

This is the original Tune Trapper Antenna that has "wow'd" customers since it's introduction in 2004. Whip antennas on boats don't last long due to UV and vibration. The TT was designed to be hidden and mounted anywhere in the hull or in any compartment or just dropped behind your radio. The TT no ground plane design works well on all vehicles, especially fiberglass boats, cars, rv's where a good ground plane is non-existant. Most vertical whip antennas are a 1/4 wave ground plane. The Tune Trapper is a full 1/2 wave helical dipole wound with many feet of sensitive mag wire and requires no ground or power. Each TT is hand tuned to the FM frequency band 87.5-108 MHz with special instruments. The antenna is sealed in a unique pvc housing for harsh marine use. The TT center fed dipole is great for overhead console mounted radios. The Tune Trapper is 24" long x 1/2" diameter. Complete with 6 feet of 95% copper braid shielded coax cable to eliminate EMI noise. Cable is terminated with a standard Motorola connector to plug directly into your radio. (More customer reviews)I was skeptical. How effective could these actually be? But for the price I figured "why not give them a try?"
Worth the extra $20 or so. Although there was little to no sway with the Thule rack in the first place (I love my Thule rack - the 912), these keep the bikes extra firm and in their place when you're on backroads. But, I think most importantly, these cages keep the bikes from banging into each other and causing unnecessary frame dings.
Cons:
A little bit of a hassle to put on and take off - maybe 5 minutes extra to secure two bikes.
Also, you have to throw them in your car rather than leave them on the rack - too easy to steal so why risk it.
I like them - I recommend as long as they're less than $20.

(More customer reviews)I bought this last year when my daughter was 4. She was used to riding her little 12" bike with training wheels- and was too scared to get on the bike more than a couple times. I think, in retrospect, that it was my fault, as the bike I was borrowing was too big for me and I didn't feel secure, so how could she.
But now, one year later, she is 5 and I have an awesome bike, we went out yesterday with the tandem (what i like to call it) and had a blast! She can ride her own bike without training wheels now, so it's not about teaching her anything in particular- it's more about having a shared/team experience together outdoors.
I wish I had spent the extra money on the bike with the gears, as I could use the extra force of her helping to push through on hills and grassy terrain. So, if you think you will want to ride it with your child for a few years, consider that. As it is, her pedaling doesn't give me much help.
Aside from that, it is very easy to attach to and from your bike, it is foldable, it is sturdy and lightweight. Just make sure you have about 1 1/2" room under your seat for the attachment device.
Oh, and I recommend getting a little bell and a water bottle holder to attach to it. Hope this helps;-)

(More customer reviews)This is a simple, solidly built carrier. The salespeople at my local bike shop told me it's made by Thule, but I didn't try to verify that fact. I love the single arm design. I had the Thule Spare Me but my new GT mountain bike wouldn't fit since the crossbar is short and the rack arms were too wide. However, the single arm design of the Sportrack solves that problem. I also installed the two locking pieces (locking hitch pin and locking knob) which seem like they'll do the job to deter the opportunistic thief, so I can go to the grocery store after riding without worrying the bike and/or rack will be gone when I return.
The clamp system for holding the bike works adequately and is partially why I like the rack since I don't have to ever mess with or look at straps. Even after I tighten as far as I think I need, I can always still manually wobble the bike slightly (which I would expect). But there is a rubber sleeve on the top and bottom of each bike position which keeps the bike from sliding around. Even though I can manually wobble the bike, I never feel like it's actually moving while driving, and I'm confident the bike is going to stay put. Also, the knobs have long screws that are threaded down into the frame piece, so it takes a lot of turning to remove the knobs to (un)load the bike. If you would get frustrated standing there and turning knobs for a minute or two every time you use the rack, this one might not be for you.
I also like the clean, minimalist design of the rack (only one arm and no straps flapping in the wind when it's unloaded). I have been complimented on it by strangers in parking lots who asked where I got it. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.

(More customer reviews)I decided to pay a little more for this lighter-weight aluminum carrier. I wanted a unit that I could easily install on my SUV by myself. This unit fits the bill quite nicely. It's 28 pounds light and very well made. It is also easy to assemble. The primary strength members are steel but the frame and mesh floor are aluminum. It has the same 500 lb. carrying capacity as the all-steel units.
I should relate also that when the unit arrived, it was missing a part. I contacted Masterbuilt and their customer support was terrific. The part was on its way the next morning. All-in-all, I am very happy with this unit and expect to use it for many years.

(More customer reviews)This rack works beautifully. I have owned other Yakima roof rack products, and this particular rack stands up to the quality I would expect from Yakima.
I chose this design over the top tube clamp type of receiver hitch rack because the top tubes on my bikes are far from straight. This really makes them difficult to mount on the clamp type rack models. If you ever see an SUV riding down the street with a bike tire pointed towards the sky, you will see what I mean. I mounted this rack on a four-door saloon, so that scenario will look even more hideous. As you probably know from the product description, the way the rack secures the bike is by the front tire. So the bike sits very level regardless of the shape of your frame. That said, your tire has to be able to hold air at the recommended pressure for your particular tire in order to keep everything tight.
I will warn: The rack is pretty heavy, so taking the rack on and off the car can be a challenge if you think 50 pounds is too much to carry. Saris sells something called Thelma that about half the weight (and a little cheaper) if weight is a concern. In my mind, the extra weight gives me a little more assurance that the rack and bike will stay put at speed in the stiff breeze that is flowing over my trunk lid. It does wiggle a little bit back there as you drive, and that made me nervous for about the first 30 miles thinking I did something wrong but got over that feeling quickly.
Mounting your bike takes less than a minute. It is so easy it is almost scary. Before you grab your bike, fold the Pivot arm and wheel tray away from the center of the rack and release the rear wheel strap. Grab your bike, place the front wheel in the wheel tray, lift the pivot arm and ratchet it down on top of your front tire. Secure the back wheel with the wheel strap and off you go. You can use the included lock to secure your bike to the rack, and rack to the car, if you expect to make stops or leave the bikes unattended for a length of time. I have only locked one bike up so far so I am not sure the supplied 6 feet of cable would be sufficient to lock two bikes and the rack to the car. The cable lock is not going to keep a determined thief from stealing your bike, but it will keep the passer by from lifting it off for a joy ride.
I have done at least 500 miles with a bike on the back of my car so far and have not experienced a single problem to date. The rack keeps the bikes far enough away that you don't have to worry about scratching the car. Likewise, the rack does not touch the frame of the bike so no damage there either. Oh! The bottle opener works too.

First the box did not contain assembly instructions , I called the company and I was able to print them on-line. Second, the box was missing the bag of 1/4" nuts, bolts and washers need to assemble this product. (there was a duplicate bag of hardware for the tongue assembly). Again...piss-poor quality control. Had to make a last minute trip to Home DEpot on Christmas Eve to PURCHASE these missing products. While there I decided to buy a piece of 1/2 inch pressure treated plywood to replace the CRAP paper board that Fuse sends with this product. This product obviously was intended for use in snow, and just cant see how the paper boards would last more than 1 season. Overall, the metal frame seems like a good well built product. we shall see.

Yakima DeadLock Hitch Mount Bike Rack Bike Lock with Core Review

(More customer reviews)So I bought this lock package to protect both my bikes and my new Yakima DoubleDown rack. Unfortunately there is a HUGE design flaw with how this system works on the DoubleDown racks. Yes, you can lock the bikes to the rack and also the rack to the hitch with this product. Unfortunately, Yakima engineers didn't seem to think about securing the pivot bolt in the middle where the rack folds down. It is just as easy (if not even easier) to simply unscrew that pivot bolt and take the whole rack off as it is to take out the hitch pin. Imagine coming back to your truck to find that your bikes and rack are both gone, but the lower trailer hitch piece of the rack is still safely locked to the hitch. Seems like a very sloppy oversight to me. Go look at a demo rack in a retail store. You'll see what I mean. The pivot bolt is not protected at all, and it would take only a minute to unscrew it and be gone with the whole rack...despite both of these locks.

After returning from a ride in the seat with my wife, my son had cuts/scratches on the inside of both arms above the elbow(wearing a t-shirt). The cause of the injuries was the edge of the large holes on the sides of the wrap-around cage. The molding process left very sharp edges like you might find on a plastic knife. I sanded down all the edges and its fine now, but as you can imagine, we were a little annoyed. It could have just been my unit and all others are fine, but I don't think something that can cause that type of injury should make it past quality inspection.
